NEW RESIDENT INFORMATION |
Establishing Residency
Newcomers can establish residency by either
Declaration of Domicile or Voter’s
Registration. To obtain a Declaration of
Domicile, go to the Clerk of the Circuit
Court office. Register to vote at the
Supervisor of Elections Office, the Jensen
Beach Chamber of Commerce, or any First
National Bank or First Union National Bank.
For Hutchinson Island residents living in
St. Lucie County, the nearest Supervisor of
Elections office is located in the Village
Green Shopping Center at U.S. #1 and Walton
Road, Port St. Lucie.
Vehicle Registration
New residents are given 10 days to register.
New residents may apply for license plates,
titles, and registration at the Tax
Collector’s office. There will be an initial
registration fee when you are purchasing a
new plate. Sales tax is 6% of the price
minus a Florida registered trade-in.
Driver’s License
New residents are given 30 days from the
time they declare residency to change their
out-of-state license. If you reside in
Florida and are employed, your vehicle must
display a Florida license tag, and one must
pass both the written and driving tests,
which are administered at the Driver’s
License Examination Offices, 4320 S.E. U.S.
#1, Stuart, or at 8495 S. U.S. #1, Port St.
Lucie.
